According to what the ONZ estimates, annually 2.5 million people are victims of trafficking. More than 1.2 million are children! However, Free the Slaves states that in today’s world there are more than 27 million slaves, in Asia the minority is striking – 24 million people. Human trafficking victims are sexually exploited, forced into slave labor and used to obtain organs or body parts.
Globally, the annual profit from human trafficking, only for the purposes of forced labor, far exceeds the $ 31 milliard. A woman trafficking for sexual exploitation, only in Latin America, is a business with annual profit exceeding $ 16 billion. Poland is a destination for victims from Eastern Europe and Asia, the country of origin for Western Europe victims and the transit country. It is difficult to verify official statistics, because victims rarely report to the authorities, because they fear for their own and their relatives fate.
Human trafficking is a crime with an extremely high gain at frighteningly low risk. According to ONZ in the fight against human trafficking mainly interfere: ignorance and lack of knowledge, lack of appropriate legislation, limited protection for victims and limited international cooperation.
Human trafficking is a crime and disgrace of XXI century!
